The Most. Rev. Michael B. Curry, presiding bishop of The Episcopal Church, delivered
the keynote address at the “Power of Love” Martin Luther King service on Sunday, January 15, 2023, at Christ the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church.
The Rt. Rev. John Harvey Taylor, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles,
welcomed Bishop Curry. According to Taylor, the service planned to highlight Dr. King’s vision that “Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into a friend,” and also echoed Bishop Curry’s longstanding international focus on “The Way of Love.”
Political dignitaries in attendance were Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and Los Angeles
City Councilmembers Marqueece Harris-Dawson and Heather Hunt.
During the liturgy, music was provided by the Episcopal Chorale Society. The service was livestreamed via the diocesan Facebook page and YouTube channel.
A reception, catered by Say Cheese, was held before the 3 p.m. service.
